You, yourself, the expert.
That's what our name means. We're a small team building it, and right now we're hiring.
Tu, tu stesso, l'esperto
Everything a person needed to know used to come from the people around them. You learned to farm, build and repair by standing next to someone who already knew how, watching them work, and then doing it yourself. That is still how almost anything practical gets taught.
What changed is not that the world got more complicated, although it did. What changed is that the person who knows how is no longer nearby. Your dad lives three states away and can't come look at the garbage disposal. So you go to the web instead, you get a twenty-minute video, and somewhere inside it are the four seconds you needed.
Our mission is to democratize the learning of new skills in the tactile world, and make the joys of making accessible and affordable. Every doer. Every expert. Every how-to question.
We went and indexed the video
Not whole videos. The moments inside them. Ask how to replace a leaking hose bib valve, and the answer comes back with the four seconds that show it.
That index is the company. What we sell on top of it is an expert on a business's own site that answers its customers in its own voice, and points them at its catalogue. Every account runs on the same index.
The voice is the easy part. Anyone can train a model on a voice. The hard part is knowing what is inside the video at the moment level, and that is what we built.
We start in DIY home improvement. The same index works anywhere someone has to be shown how.
People stopped searching and started asking. Assistants answer by citing their sources, and they cite pages they can read at the moment level. That is the level we index at.
What you'd be selling
A business has customers asking it questions all day. How do I install this. What size do I need. Why did mine fail. Most of those questions never reach anyone, and the ones that do cost the business money to answer.
You'd be selling them an expert on their own site, in their own voice, built from what they already publish and pointed at what they already sell. They keep the customer and they keep the relationship. We build the thing that answers.
The buyer is any business whose customers ask it questions it can't answer at scale. A manufacturer, a retailer, a home management platform, a home-warranty company.
One honest note on stage. The method is filed and the deployment is in production. We're early, and we're not going to dress that up.
How we work
Move with purpose and make things.
Everyone knows "move fast and break things." We kept the moving and dropped the breaking. We go even when the plan isn’t finished and the destination is blurry, we think through the consequences and the hidden costs before we go, and then we make something real.
Use the right tool for the job.
You wouldn’t drive a nail with a tape measure, and you wouldn’t make your own nails when a box costs three dollars. People work the same way, except a person is the tool chest, not the tool. What you’re best at sits on top where you reach it first, and the work should match what’s up there.
Measure twice, cut once.
Mistakes are expensive and nobody else is checking our measurements. We take the time to plan and we’re precise about it. If you say something takes a week, everyone else builds their week around that.
The devil is in the details, but so is greatness.
The usual reading is that the details are where you get burned. Japanese craftspeople say God is in the details instead, and that’s the version we mean. Details are the whole difference between ordinary work and work worth remembering. Anyone can start something. Finishing it is the rare part.
It’s okay to call Dad.
Everyone needs help, and everyone here is doing things they’ve never done before. Whoever Dad is to you, a mentor, a friend, your actual dad, call them. Nobody gets credit for staying stuck quietly.
The master has failed more times than the amateur has tried.
What separates good from great is showing up, not talent and not tools. The days you show up compound and the days you don’t depreciate. This is not about grinding yourself down, and rest is part of showing up. It’s about being there, especially when it’s hard.
Who you’d work with
We’re a small team, and between us we cover every core part of the business. One builds the product. One owns new business. One owns partnerships and operations. One runs the company.
Nick Kuzma, co-founder and CEO
Three years building Stesso, and he sold the first deal himself.
Engineering
Our CTO has been a CTO twice before and has been shipping software for 27 years.
New business
The person going full-time on new business closed the two largest deals in LinkedIn Sales Solutions history. He’s who you’d report to, and you’d have thirty minutes with him every week.
Advisors
The man who built Lowe’s AI home-improvement advisor advises us, and so does a former Shopify VP.
